Clockwork Scarf

When I saw this Pattern, I knew exactly who I would make it for.

 I have had this dream that I would knit all the women in my family a piece to love as much I love to knit it.

I first messed it up so had to undo it and start again. 

I used smaller needles then the pattern suggested and it resulted in a smaller scarf, I still have to block it.

It is a very simple knit as they are all knit stitches apart from the three pearl stitches. 

I went with browns as it goes with bright colours which my mum can sometimes wear and it goes with neutrals too.

Of course I had to get my little model in a pic. He tried to rip it off. LOL

KOOLHASS BABY STYLE

All Finished, I must say how addicted I am to making this hat. Of course it may have something to do with how cute it is when made for wee little man.

As in previous posts this is a Brooklyn Tweed Design I used a 4 ply yarn and changed needles to suit.

Baby Koolhaas

My wool store is closing down, it is so handy to me and the owner is great too. She is so helpful and I have learnt alot from her. I will miss going there and chatting, it is a little harder these days as I have Carter to think about. He is a light sleeper and will sleep in pram but if it stops hello high beams are on.

So I knew if I had a boy he had to have a matching beanie to dad's Koolhaas hat by Jared Flood of Brookyln Tweed 

I first thought I had to adapt the pattern because his head being smaller, I only cast on 88 stitches, pattern called for more.

He looked too cute so had to take some photos, then I realised that I could probably cast on the same amount of stitches because I was only using a 4 ply and I was using smaller needles also.

I then spoke with Michele (my knit pro) and she suggested that I could also use a slightly bigger needle. so I unravelled my work and started again. The new beanie I am working on will fit for much longer as I can get it on my head. ( I have a small head ) Anyway when I have finished I will post the photos.

Hourglass Cowl

 I have been knitting, I have done two hats finished the baby blanket and made an Hourglass cowl from Raverly, the designer you can find Here.  It only took about four nights working for about two hours each night.

I love that this has two great sides, so it is reversible.

I used a wool that was 70% wool and 30% Alpaca, so it is very soft.

I had a work friend do a lovely hand written label and covered an old shoe box for presentation.

Knitting baby Mila a christmas gift.

How a love a little persons clothes, and knitting them is fun too. One, they are quick to knit and two, they look so cute in them.

I decided on a Debbie Bliss pattern called matinee coat.

In a gorgeous pink of course. The wool is by Filatura Di Crosa baby and is called Principessa it is a extra-fine merino. Colour 375. (I think it is a 5 ply) 

I am half way thru the right front and then will be on to the sleeves. 

Bolero...Magic

Bolero is finished, and I have worn it and been stopped by a lady that had to touch it and admire it. Which is nice that she commented as you spend hours knitting your little heart out, so it is great when a stranger comments.

Since I have broken my point and shoot it is difficult to take photos of myself wearing this little number, so the chair is it. (note to me, get a tripod)

My seam work is not so flash. must work on that.

The thing I love the most about this Bolero is that you can wear it two ways. Cream edge down, or you can flip it and wear it...

grey side up. It has come in handy the last few days as it is still a little cold and has been perfect.

Knitting again

Well, My camera is home and I have baked. Finished product to come. I have been Knitting a new cardi during the last few days, as the one I started and finished is too small. (wrong Needles) Dumbass as Michael would say.

Anyway this pattern is from the Jo Sharp website. I just love it. It is the origami bolero.

This is the back and sleeves, it is asymmetric and the end bit will be the bottom. It is a top that can be worn upside down, so it is also the top. (fingers crossed)

This is the bottom of the sleeve, I love that it is moss stitch it is my favourite stitch.

Baking by day, Knitting by night

This is my cardi, half of it. I have been doing a little each night, before I ran out of wool. I love the colour, and the pattern is very easy so far.

I love this yarn it is called Zara and I got it from my Favourite wool shop Mishi Yarns

I purchased the pattern from Chic knits I only have the sleeves and the collar to go. With 6 weeks until spring I hope that I get a bit of wear out of it before it gets too warm.

Car seat Blanket

I had some left over wool last year and I thought why not make a mini blanket for my little niece. So I just started knitting and this is what I came up with. 

I really like working with the moss stitch and the effect it has.  

I added the ruffle edge after I had made the square.

I am told it washes well and my sister in law gets lots of comments on it.

No Pattern, more baking

Good-morning, it is a beautiful sunny Autumn's day and I am seeing my two most wonderful friends.  So I made Rita a hat and I will be baking her some brownie to take home to her Husband. She now lives in Taupo so our lunches together are now very special.

I started a lace Beret a few months ago and it was so tight to twist the stitches that half way thru I unraveled it to the band and started my own pattern, one that I knew how to do. I also love Yarn over patterns so this is what I ended up with.

I really like the band as it was different, but it took alot of wool and it was really tight to knit also.

My second favourite thing to do is baking and that is what I will be using to make a Brownie recipe that is Michael's favourite thing to eat. I will be trying out these baking paper things, I don't even know what they are called. Will keep you posted if it works out.

KOOLHAAS

Thank-you to Jared @ Brooklyn Tweed the Koolhaas pattern has kept me busy for a few days when it should only be one day max.  As some would know I have only been following patterns for 6 months to a year. (it has been on and off) I don't choose simple patterns at times, I choose patterns that I like and never to turn down a challenge. I thought no problem I can do cables so I can do a beanie. Oh how wrong was I.

As you can see by the ball, I have stuffed it in the knitting bag to came back to it, many times. Michele from mishi yarns started from the rib as I was not getting it. So after a few rows I was amazed that the pattern was working and I was finally on my way. Until I messed up somehow so backwards I go, I dropped a stitch without realising and now I can't figure how to pick up 5 whole stitches.  Much help is needed.

It will look great one day, I was hoping to make a few of these. I think I will tackle the next one in a few months. 

Hello Ireland.

Just had to say hello to Ireland, very random but that is me sometimes a bit left field. But all for a good reason. I finished one of my hats this morning and now I have a chance to show you.

To solve the running out of wool I moved to a 5 ply in same colour and moved the needles down twice, there wasn't much difference as I ran out two rows into the shaping so it blends well.

I showed a friend this morning and she is going to give it a good home on her head.

Now I just have to get moving on the Brooklyn Tweed koolhaas pattern and I am set for the next day. I have a day off tomorrow.

Knit you a Hat or Two.

 I started a beanie project at Mishi yarns to get home to find I left the pattern there, oh what to do, start a new one!

I have unraveled this a few times and think I will have to do it again.

So armed with two balls of wool I start a beautiful lace beret, only to get to the crown shaping part to realise that the balls of wool I used last time had more metres or yardage (depends where you are from).   I call trusted Michelle only to find out that she hasn't got the colour anymore as she had a sale and it has gone.  In two days my project turned from happy knitted bliss to a mad panic to find somewhere else that sells it. I have to wait until Thursady oh Thursday is a long way away.  It is also one way to figure out that I am new to knitting, the other is I didn't photocopy the page of the pattern that tells you how much wool to use. 

Anyway I still enjoy watching the pattern reveal itself as I knit oh the joys. 

Baby Blanket

It isn't my first baby blanket, but it is the first full sized one I did.

After I took the photos I realised how great the waves looked, I wasn't sure about the multi coloured wool in the middle but it made a really cool effect.  The recipient seemed really happy and showed her work mates which makes you happy inside. I really hope she did like it.

Have Wool Will Knit

I have new wool, I have been trying to get to the wool shop for 3 days I went two mornings in a row before I realised in summer she opens at 10 am instead of 9 am like winter. So I had to wait to go at night which I did now I have wool, yippee I am happy when I have wool.

Not the colours I was first thinking, but I do like a bright colour for little ones. It is a New Zealand wool that can go in the washing machine so that is perfect for a baby as hand washing can take time.

 It took a few rows to see the pattern, at first I wasn't sure. It is growing on me. I like the colours the unsure part is the multi coloured wool, I think it may have been better a solid colour.

It is another Debbie Bliss pattern, I really like her wools and the way she does her colours. It was meant to have 236 cast on stitches but because I am using different wool I cast on 200 it is still alot but worth it.

Anyway I only have another 14 days to finish this see you next time.

All Wrapped up.

There is something very satisfying about finishing a knitted piece.  This one I loved.  I used a 100% bamboo yarn made by Atlante (made in Italy) it drapes so beautifully and feels very soft. I used a Debbie bliss pleated scarf pattern that I brought off the net from a knitting website  that I can't remember the name sorry.

I chose a raspberry colour as I wanted to use the yarn but didn't fancy the other colours at the time. With only one small mistake I love the way it turned out.

It really drapes well.

On to the next project, I am hoping to make a baby blanket for my hair dresser, she has been great over the last 2 years and as I hate getting my haircut our conversations keep me occupied and I trust her a great deal. It will be a way to thank her and welcome her new baby into the world.

Rain and Sunshine

Rain and then sunshine a bit of muggy mixed in. I picked up the knitting last night and as it got longer I got hotter. It is made from bamboo so it is very soft.

 It is a beautiful scarf and I am almost to the end, another 30cm to go.  I put it down at the end of winter towards spring to make the girls skirts.  So when I picked it up I saw a mistake ten rows down oh why didn't I see it earlier when I knew what row it was. Anyway I figured no one will notice it so I will keep on going and that is just what I have done, but it is still on the back of my mind. I think I will give it away to someone that doesn't know about the mistake or should I go back?

I decided to go on. The sun has decided to appear after it has been missing for 4 days at least. Oh and I have mentioned earlier in my posts that this is a Debbie Bliss pattern.
