Baby Sewing

This is just a short post to let you all know that I am sewing and thinking of the blog.

These are going to be two fitted cot sheets, one for Carter (fabric from spotlight) it is a japanese fabric with robots on it. The other is a pink nursery themed one for my friend's little girl. The spotted one is also for my friend's little girl it is going to be a play mat.

Large Chevron Bag

Carter and I go swimming, I took his baby bag and another the first day and it was a nightmare. So I worked a little sewing magic and made this bag.

I love it, it fits my gear and towel. All of Carter's baby stuff and towel.
I used a upholstery Fabric so it is nice thick.

Winter coat

Here it is, long over due and half finished.  I had some great ideas from Mishi Yarns about the top stitching, I used a silk embroidery thread and weaved it in and out of my top stitch. I love it and think it looks good.

I used a striped cotton fabric for the lining, which gives it a pop of colour.

It is covered it cat fur too. I just have the inside lining and buttons to go and I will have a great coat for winter.

ALL FINISHED

It is all done and after wrapping the presents I started to delete the photos and realised I hadn't download the photos.  I wasn't happy I will have to take a photo tomorrow after it is opened. I did save one photo from destruction.

I also made my brothers birthday cake as it is his birthday tomorrow.  I must say it looks rather good.  But when I woke up this morning some of the ganache has gone a light brown colour Damn humidity I am guessing as I have made this ganache before and that has never happened.  Lucky I got photos of that before it turned bad. It is still edible.  It is only my second decorated cake so I feel good about it anyway.

I got asked for chocolate so chocolate he got, it is a mud cake with chocolate butter cream then layered with chocolate fondant with a chocolate ganache.  I also made fudge and put them in a mould and poured chocolate on top. Also the big pieces of chocolate is fudge dipped in you guessed it chocolate.

I thought I should write happy birthday as well, so he knows I made it for this birthday and not our christmas get together.

I cut out fondant hearts and piped ganache around the edge.

Anyway that is about it. Christmas comes early tomorrow, yum good food and family laughs.

Ribbons and more ribbons.

I have (had) a big stash of ribbons and it is a stash as most of it is hidden.  So it came out of hiding and I started a project.  I thought why not wrap the girls presents in something other then gift wrap so I started to cut ribbon for a different approach to wrapping.

A couple of bags for the girls to use after the clothes I made are pulled out.  It took a few more hours then I thought it would, but once I figured out how to sew them on I was away.  Simple and because I am only making them for the bigger girls I only have to make one more.

I have cut out the last two skirts and I am half way thru the second bag.  i am keeping myself busy, as well as playing Angry Birds on the Ipad.

14 two more to go!

Wow I have sewn up 14 pieces for my 4 little nieces, it seems alot but when you divide them up it looks like I should make more.  I will see how I feel.

Anyway I had finished up the last dress for baby Ella and cut the fabric whilst trimming away the seam, damn wasn't the word I used, up it was only the lining on the bodice so I think it will be okay.

So here they are.

I just loved this yellow and blue fabric, it was a quilting fabric from spotlight.

I went to Fabric and pretty things by Trelise Cooper and brought the stripe and check fabric, it is the first time I have mixed a pattern I am pretty happy with it, I just need to put something on the bodice to finish it.

Fast approaching.

Christmas, it is coming.  Earlier for me as our Families are splitting this year which is kind of good news as Michael and I end up spending all day in the car. So we are celebrating on the 18th which means I had to get sewing and I did. Here are some more skirts for my gorgeous little girls. (nieces) These are all a size 1 which I had to adjust pattern as it starts from a size 2.

I made these two skirts from a cotton sack that I got when a brought some linen from Wallace Cotton I cut this skirt then I just hemmed the bottom skirt and put pretty lilac ribbon in the waist perfect and cheap (kind of).

And I had a small amount of time before dinner to make these, Bananna and coffee icing.

Lorna and I will be starting our christmas baking at work so be watching.

Little People Dresses

I am off to Hamilton in 2 days, very excitied as I get to spend time with my brothers family. I don't get to see them much so when I do it is a special time.  So after making all the dresses for christmas I really wanted to give them one, so I download the copy of the summer dress Corrie from RetroMummy posted on her blog and hey presto I have two new little dresses. They are matching in a way I have used both fabrics for each dress.

I also added a little hand sewing on Sophia's dress as it was quite plain I thought it could use some detail.  Anyway off to bake as the cupcakes I made this morning turned into little volancoes halfway thru cooking, and as I make these all the time I was gutted.  Michael was pleased as he now gets to eat the
whole lot.

Sewing up a storm.

I just can't stop, it is amazing I get to sleep with all the knitting and sewing jamming up my head. When I have to work all day that is all I think about.  My sewing and knitting at home in a pile waiting for me to get home plus the cat.

So without further waiting here it is the Ava Dress, I couldn't help to make it in a candy pink stripe.

I also made a candy stripe underskirt that can be worn on it's own or under the dress.

Instead of a button for second dress I stitched some ribbon into a rose.

the back is a low cut (which I can't show you as computer is not letting me download rotated photo and I don't know how to fix it) , super cute but watch those tiny little backs with sunblock this summer.

One back in the candy.

Anyway I am now going to draft a baby jumpsuit hope it works out.

It is all on!

I have had a busy week full of craft, I am so in love with Modkids and the patterns are so cute, I got mine in the mail last week and went straight to the fabric shops in full force.

I have 5 little nieces and they are all beautiful.  I am making them all these for Christmas yes I know it is early, I have 3 weekends all booked up with trips so that is 3 weeks that no work will happen.  I have made two already, I think I am driving Michael nuts as each one I hold up and say 'aren't these so cute?' I get a slight nod with a small smirk. (not really interested are you)?  Anyway I am having fun, plus I am still knitting my scarf it is short of 140 cm and it has to been 180 cm I have run out of thread. It will have to wait until I can get to the shop.

Also the back of the second skirt the front is the same as above, I just love that I don't have to hem this overskirt makes it fast and easy.

So that is my progress so far. Looking forward to making the Ava pattern by the end of the week.

Quick whip up!

Well there is a new baby in town, so that means bring out the machine and scrap fabric and get to it.

I think that next time I would edge it differently, but the next one I like heaps so may have to make young Sophia one soon.

The New Sack.

Here it is, I brought some laminated fabric from a shop that was closing down. It was my favourite shop to go and be inspired by wonderful fabrics. Anyway they were having a sale so I went along, as I have a few projects in my head. It is an AMY BUTLER fabric which I love.
I catch public transport in my town and sometimes carry around my Lucy and the powder room bag, It has been great and I washed it last week as it is made from canvas type material, but the strap would dig into my shoulder when I put too much in it and it didn't always fit everything in. So out came the Laminated fabric and hello new bag.  I think it is great. I made two one small one to hold my knitting and a rough prototype which is not going to make a grand appearance anytime soon. Anyway here it is.

It also is perfect on those wet days and the rain wipes straight off, I just had to fill it up and see if it carries my favourite mag HOME BEAUTIFUL which it did and the Umbrella.  I think I should make more but I only brought one metre, Bad hindsight.
