Car Seat Blanket

Wow hello 2014, I didn't even realise I hadn't written on here since last year. My apologies to anyone that has been checking and there has not been one post.

Well I am still around, My little Carter keeps me well on my toes. He is a very cute boy, he is loving and makes sure most times that I am only a few feet away.

I have been knitting and sewing lately, I made my own variation of a baby doll sling, it has not been photographed as of yet, because our little helpers for one, don't want to wear it long or second, don't stand still long enough.

So without further rambling here is my latest car seat blanket.

I finished this edge off with a picot castoff, I got to the end and had 3cms left and ran out of wool.

 This is the first bi colour blanket I have done, I think I like them all one colour. I don't hate it thou.

 

As you can tell it is a plain stitch, I picked up the edge the wrong way around that I normally do, But it ended in a nice little stitch the whole way around.

Carter couldn't resist bringing over my herbal tea for a little drink. The plan was to photograph it lying flat. He is like a cat, anytime you lay out a pattern or the paper to read they come right over and sit in the middle.

I love that he sat right on it and thought he was very clever, such a sweet little soul.

It's a Wrap.

I have decided that I can make my own wraps and not pay twice the price. I am so glad for fabric outlet stores and when they have a sale I am going back for more.

This fabric is a double layer cotton and it has holes in shapes of double hearts, I got a stripe binding from spotlight and just edged it. 

I love how it turned out, the red with the stripes looks very striking.

I also picked up a green 100% merino fabric, which I will be binding with a simple colour.

I am going to wait and see what sex baby is before I buy some more.

 I cut the fabric to 100 cm by 80 cm as that is the size I found in most of the stores, also some merino wraps were 80 cm by 80 cm. The leftover that I trimmed I am planning on making a simple pant.

Nesting On

Now that kiddo is only 7 weeks away, I have started the last finishing things. So finally the ends have been woven in, and not by me but a lovely friend of mine did as we were having a cuppa.

I have decided to keep it after I thought that I might sell it.

It gives the room a bit more colour and is a nice weight.

I was thinking another car seat blanket with thin chevron would be pretty cool, I might wait for baby to arrive so it doesn't have to be uni-sexed.

Car Seat Blanket

When my second niece was born I made her a blanket to fit in her car seat. It ended up being such a practical size for my sister in law, I thought if I ever have another baby I would make one for my bubs.

I used a 4 ply baby merino from dream time. I knitted on 3.25mm needles.

I did a twisted rib pattern and made it almost square.

I wanted to also do a mitre corner. But my lack in patience how to be shown, I just pick up all the edges and ribbed it. I still love it, as the corners curl under so bubs feet should stay nice and covered.

Blocked and Finished

It is so exciting when I finish a piece. Jared's pattern was fantastic, it is the second pattern I have made from Brooklyn Tweed and not my last.

I also Started on the Debbie Bliss Rabbit from the book Booties, Blankets & Bears as a present topper. I am running out of wool so it may have to be another trip to the wool shop.

Blanket Is Coming Along

And so is baby, Not right now but in four months.  I took the blanket in for a sneak preview to the parents, I was worried she might not like it. I was wrong she said F.......(not to repeat) Beautiful.  So glad she liked it.

It looks fantastic, I can only do a few rows at a time and I am hoping to finish it in a another week or 2 at the most.

I was also hoping to show you my third decorated fondant cake but I messed it up big time.  It was definitely a cake I should have planned out so I fixed it but may not show you all yet. It needs a few more touches.

Baby Blanket Number Two

Here it is, number two baby blanket.  It is for my other cousins first baby and his partner wanted cream so it can be used for their 5 babies they say they are going to have. My thought was wait until the first before you say you are having 5. All babies are cute human or animals there is nothing cuter than a small little baby even cupcakes are cute. In speaking of cupcakes I was lent a awesome cupcake stand for my first job. I will post photos sometime this week.

The beginning few rows of the Shale Pattern from Brooklyn Tweed, it is one of many patterns that I love from Jared. It is coming along well until last night when I realised I was losing stitches somewhere so had to go back 8 rows. I have knitted them all back on so no-one knows anything went wrong, about from you.

 

Time for work, oh I wish people paid me everyday to bake cakes. 

Baby Blanket

It isn't my first baby blanket, but it is the first full sized one I did.

After I took the photos I realised how great the waves looked, I wasn't sure about the multi coloured wool in the middle but it made a really cool effect.  The recipient seemed really happy and showed her work mates which makes you happy inside. I really hope she did like it.

I didn't finish the Baby Blanket on time as a had a few set backs this week, I will finish it by next week. It is quite funny as the person I am giving blanket to is doing the baby's room in similar colours that I knitted. I was worried that she may not like the colours so it was great to hear.
