Baby Shower Cake

A baby shower cake. Not for me but a friend's sister, she is due very soon.  It was based on a Debbie Brown cake from the baby cakes book.

I made the stork and the baby.

I liked how the legs were wrinkly.

Just after this photo the poor feet broke right in the middle, I couldn't believe it.

I still think it was cute.

I made the first babies head twice as big.

I was a bit worried about painting the blue on as I had never done it before. I wasn't sure if fondant had to be dry or not. I went with not, worked out fine.

Oh, look at the baby.

I had worked all day on  this cake, so by the time I got to the clouds and they weren't turning out as I wanted them to, I gave in to my has to be perfect self and did my best.

Over-all I thought that it turned out well and the mother to be came in to say thanks, so mission accomplished.

Nesting On

Now that kiddo is only 7 weeks away, I have started the last finishing things. So finally the ends have been woven in, and not by me but a lovely friend of mine did as we were having a cuppa.

I have decided to keep it after I thought that I might sell it.

It gives the room a bit more colour and is a nice weight.

I was thinking another car seat blanket with thin chevron would be pretty cool, I might wait for baby to arrive so it doesn't have to be uni-sexed.

Car Seat Blanket

When my second niece was born I made her a blanket to fit in her car seat. It ended up being such a practical size for my sister in law, I thought if I ever have another baby I would make one for my bubs.

I used a 4 ply baby merino from dream time. I knitted on 3.25mm needles.

I did a twisted rib pattern and made it almost square.

I wanted to also do a mitre corner. But my lack in patience how to be shown, I just pick up all the edges and ribbed it. I still love it, as the corners curl under so bubs feet should stay nice and covered.

Angelina VS Tinkerbell

My Brother's daughter turned five yesterday. What did she want on her cake? A ballerina or Tinker-bell. I immediately thought how about both of them!

I have seen Ombre cakes on the internet, but never had a reason to make one, until now. I made pound cake and split the mixture into four. It had a white chocolate butter cream on the inside.

I knew that when I drew the design, I wanted to do a rose on the cake to match Angelina's one she has on her dress.  Also the stripes were something I love on cakes and want to try it, so this is my first attempt, a few wonky lines but I was pretty happy.

I also knew that to tie in Tinker-Bell there had to be some green so I thought about encore roses.

I had a friend do the figurines and she did an amazing job, without these we would not have had such an amazing cake.

I love how Monica also added the rose on the number 5, it tied in perfectly.

Both figurines had wire in them so they were not to be eaten.

I absolutely loved Angelina.

As you can tell I took a-lot of photos of her too.

I was also happy with the baby Roses.

Hourglass Cowl

I have been knitting, I have done two hats finished the baby blanket and made an Hourglass cowl from Raverly, the designer you can find Here.  It only took about four nights working for about two hours each night.

I love that this has two great sides, so it is reversible.

I used a wool that was 70% wool and 30% Alpaca, so it is very soft.

I had a work friend do a lovely hand written label and covered an old shoe box for presentation.

So Sorry - And for Susan xox

Hello,

Well it has been a long time not being creative, It has been a long few months feeling sick and I have recently been getting headaches. The cause well that is the exciting news... a little baby is on it's way, due in October. I have also found out that a few other people are due at the same time, it is nice as I knew no-one having a baby when Jakob came along.

Anyway so I have very slowly been knitting the baby a blanket, it is a chevron the wool is a mix of wool and alpaca, it feels nice. I am still unsure if I like it, so there probably will be another one coming up.

I love Chevron, and I have for a while and in the last few weeks I have seen people talk about chevron all over the place.

I guess the colours aren't exactly what I intended.

Looking at them in photo form, it looks quite cool.

Hopefully I will be back more often if not please excuse me, some days are better then others.

Brownie For Susan

Happy Birthday Susan.

Brownie wrapped in a bow.

You can easily do this, I got the template here. I went to the art store and picked up a thick piece of plastic card and a marker. Now I have a template that I can re-use instead of cutting a piece of paper every time.
